Interest in biomolecules including proteins and oligonucleotides has exploded in recent years, but while supplies of raw materials are relatively abundant, an ongoing problem encountered is separation andor purification of these materials. Displacement chromatography can be used to perform such difficult separations in an efficient and cost effective manner. However, a major obstacle to the implementation of displacement chromatography has been a lack of displacer molecules for particular separations.The displacer molecules disclosed in this invention have a high affinity for ionic exchange stationary materials, and therefore can be used effectively for purification or separation of bimolecules such as proteins and oligonucleotides.
